Tuesday AM - Titans Game Recap from Hotbeds Tournament

Courtesy of Titans Parent Ed McGovern.

Titans did well in both games this morning. First game was against Baldwin HS Team from Long Island and second game was a collection of independent players who signed up to play as guest players. Titans won both 7-2 against Baldwin and 13-1 against the Independent team.

Today boys were at a new location, Glasgow High School just a little ways from the Delaware Football stadium. Morning game was pleasant weather wise, the later game was a little hotter. Temps are about at 90 now.

Game 7 - Titans vs. Baldwin.

Titans took a while to get going this morning. Had to wake up. Baldwin hadn't won a game, although two of their games went to a Braveheart, and they lost both.

In fact, Titans were down 1-0 before we even got there. Then they were put in a man down situation, but the D once again stepped up. Will Ernst was in goal to start. Possession goes back to Titans.

Titans clear and Baldwin is called for a penalty, so Titans are now man up. Good ball movement around goal to Wiley Osborne who gets free on the left wing and scores. 1-1

Josh Wellman is back again today and gets the face off on the ground to David Fleming who clears. Shot is stopped by their goalie but Titans play well on the defensive clear and force a turnover. Both Wiley Osborne and Moore Harris get off good shots. Moore Harris' shot is stopped by the goalie, who clears all the way into our box and takes a shot but it goes wide. Baldwin maintains possession and a crease roll and shot goes in. 2-1 Baldwin.

Titans now are waking up and begin to exert their dominance.

Charlie Ford picks up a contested ground ball on the face off and clears to Jack McCormick on the wing. McCormick sees Joe Lang cutting to goal and hits him in stride. Lang bounces a shot past the goalie to tie the game 2-2.

Josh Wellman pulls the face off ball under his legs and Chad Bell scoops up the grounder. But Titans turn it over.

Titans play tough D again. Riley Burke and Jack McGovern make nice stick checks. McGovern grabs a loose ground ball and clears to midfield. Wiley Osborne takes a shot that just goes wide and the half ends 2-2.

2nd Half

Face off ground ball goes to Baldwin but Rudy Buhlman makes a nice stick check and clears to midfield. Frankie Hattler rolls from behind the cage and finds Duncan Hoskinson open in front. Hoskinson buries the shot and Titans take first lead 3-2.

Matt Emery, who's missed most of the tournament, comes in and is involved immediately. Emery drives to his right and rockets a shot that just misses, but he looks hungry.

Titans play tough D on the clear again and cause a turnover. Ball comes loose at midfield but Peter Tags lays a big hit on a Baldwin player and grabs the ground ball. Peter Tags then drives hard to his right and fires a bottom corner shot past the goalie to push the lead to 4-2.

Josh Wellman wins another face off and Spencer Evans drives left but his left handed shot goes just wide. Possession still with Titans. Frankie Hattler rolls from behind the crease and puts his shot over the goalie's shouder for a score. 5-2 Titans.

On the next face off, Riley Burke gathers in a tough ground ball but a Titans shot goes wide and back to Baldwin. Burke makes another super defensive play, creating a bad pass turnover with a nice check to the Baldwin player and Titans take over.

Chad Bell drives to goal from the right, but his bounce shot bounces a little too high over the goal - possession still with Titans.

James Harrison plays some tough D on the clear and has contained the Baldwin player, but the refs call and cross check penalty (parents thought it was cheap) and Titans play man down.

Baldwin does get off a shot on their man up, but Cam Bowlby now in goal stops and clears the ball. A Titan's shot is stopped and Baldwin goes on a fast break, but great D by Rudy Buhlman stops the fast break and he forces a bad pass turnover back to Titans.

Frankie Hattler picks up a tough ground ball but ball gets loose again past midfield. Matt Corbin scoops up the loose ball and gets it to Patrick Tracy on the wing who hits Frankie Hattler cutting to goal. Hattler whips a shot around his back that scores and Titans lead 6-2.

Jackson Teague gets the ground ball out of the scrum on the face off and gives it to Matt Emery at the top of the box. Matt drives right, leaving the Baldwin defender trailing his dust and buries the shot in the low right corner to make the score 7-2.

Only two minutes left in the half and Titans play keep away from Baldwin. Mikie Schlosser, David Fleming, Duncan Hoskinson all hold the ball and keep it away from Baldwin.

Titan win 7-2 and stay undefeated.

Next game is about half an hour on the same field. So parents make sure boys are fed, watered and in the shade to keep up their energy. We have to have one of the best parent groups helping and supporting their team here.

Game 8 Report

This game was against a collection of traveling players from all over. Called the Independent Team (not very imaginative).

Josh Wellman wins the face off and Joe Lang scoops up the ground ball. Titans work ball around the crease and Matt Emery takes it from the top, goes to his right hard and buries the shot for a 1-0 lead.

Independent (Blue) win the face off but Riley Burke makes a great stick check and turnover. Josh Wellman clears the ground ball.

Spencer Evans takes the ball at the top and goes to his right hard, but the shot is just wide. Ball back to Blue.

This time it's Charlie Ford with a great stick check and ground ball turnover. Mikie Schlosser takes the ball and shoots, but it's a little high. Titans retain possession.

Jack McCormick finds Moore Harris in front of the goalie and Moore uses his height to get the ball past the goalie and a 2-0 lead.

Blue wins another face off but Rudy Buhlman checks the ball away and gets it to David Fleming who clears. Jack McCormick takes the ball from behind rolls to his left and hits Jackson Teague moving to goal with a perfect pass. Teague buries the shot. 3-0 Titans.

Back and forth on possessions until Titans get control again. Mikie Schlosser takes the ball at the top from midfield and uses his terrific speed to lose his defender, cuts left and rockets a shot in the top corner. Titans 4-0.

Will Ernst makes a nice save on the next possession and Titans clear. A couple of goos shots just miss - Spencer Evans shoots, Duncan Hoskinson shoots - then Titans settle the offense. Patrick Tracy then gets loose and fires underhanded past the goalie for the last goal of the half. 5-0 Titans.

2nd Half

Cam Bowlby in goal.

Josh Wellman wins another face off. Ball is cleared to Jack McCormick behind the cage who finds Joe Lang cutting to goal. Nice pass, nice shot and score. Titans now 6-0.

Chad Bell picks up a contested ground ball on the face off and gets into the offensive end. Will Montero takes a good shot but it's just wide and Blue takes over.. On the clear, Jack McGovern causes a turnover at midfield and sprints towards the goal, juking one defender and then firing a shot top corner past the goalie for his first high school goal and long poll goal. 7-0 Titans - and the Avatar war cry goes up on the sidelines.

Scoring becomes contagious now. On the face off, ball is cleared to Spencer Evans who goes hard to his left this time and his low, left-handed shot scores. 8-0 Titans and more Avatar war cries.

Blue gets the face off and takes the first shot of the half but don't score. James Harrison plays nice D and forces a turnover. Briton Barge clears.

Wiley Osborne with the ball behind finds Joe Lang cutting to goal from the right side. Joe takes a highlight real shot, over and around his shoulder that the goalie never sees and the lead grows to 9-0.

Peter Tags now on face off and wins. Will Montero makes a nice run at goal, cutting past his defender, but his shot from the left side is just wide.

Mikie Schlosser has the ball behind the cage now and hits Jackson Teague driving for goal. Teague catches, spins and shoots over the goalies' shoulder to score. 10-0 Titans.

Josh Wellman wins another face off and this time he drives to goal himself, but a good shot by Wellman is stopped by the goalie. On the clear, Chad Bell causes a turnover. He passes to Brion Barge who cuts from left of the goal to the right and fires a shot past the goalie. 11-0 Titans.

Blue gets the face off and get off a shot, but Cam Bowlby makes a nice kick save. Blue retains possession and works the ball around again, finding a player in the middle who bounces a shot that just gets by Bowlby. 11-1 Titans.

Titans get possession but turn the ball over. On the clear, Rudy Buhlman intercepts a pass. He clears to Joe Lang cutting in from the left. Lang draws the D to him and finds Patrick Tracy on the right for a shot and score. 12-1 Titans.

Mikie Schlosser gets the ball on the face off and clears. Boys work the ball around now, having to keep it in the box on the last two minutes. Frankie Hattler finds Patrick Tracy alone on the left of the goalie who scores the final Titans goal. 13-1 now.

Titans hold the ball in their offensive end for last minute of the game. Nice win against a team they should definitely dominate.

Testimonials

Parent
"I wanted to pass along that both Eric and Wade, tired as they have been after every day of camp this week, have nothing but good things to say about your camp. That is a huge compliment coming from these two players with 5 and 6 years of club + high school lacrosse. They say the coaching is outstanding, and even though they are sore, they are up and ready for the next day. "
  - C. Van Norden, San Jose, CA

Coach
"Chris and Eric get it. This is a thinking mans game to be played with passion and controlled aggression. Their model is what camps should be...up tempo and stressing the fundamentals without sacrificing fun."
  - Joe Thompson, U of Virginia Asst Coach

Player
"Experiencing Chris and Eric's camps, it is clear that they know the game of lacrosse and can successfully teach it to others. What impressed me the most and separated their camp from others was their caring attitudes for the kids and genuine interest in developing their campers skills"
  - Brian McDermott, U of Virginia Midfielder
