Hotbeds - Recap of Titans vs Ward Melville Playoff Match.

Courtesy of Ed McGovern: As everyone knows, Ward Melville is a very good team, and has to be one of the top 5 in the country. They beat the Titans 10-3 in the first round, then beat a Florida team (I think it was reported as 8-3) and then beat another very good high school team - West Islip (also 8-3) to win the Hotbeds Championship.

The game for us started promising enough. Ward Melville did score first, but then Michael Tags, off a pass from David Fleming, scored to tie it at 1-1.

Will Ernst was in goal the first half and made some nice stops. D also played tough. But Ward Melville won more face offs against us than any previous team, and was a better passing and patient team. But Ward Melville just kept up the pressure and we were behind 5-1 at half.

In the second half, Ward Melville scored first but then Jack McCormick hit Wiley Osborne who shot a low to high top corner beauty to make it 6-2.

Ward Melville got another 4 goals in the half despite good D from the long polls - Jack McGovern, Matt Corbin, Rudy Buhlman and Riley Burke.

As the game was winding down, Michael Tags got through 3 of their defenders and bounced a shot past the goalie to make it 10-3. And the ref blows the whistle to end the game.

This was a great tournament for the boys. A great effort by them and wonderful coaching by Eric and Chris. Every time we told people we were from California, they were shocked. And hated losing to us "Cali" kids.

I'd like to add my thanks to everything that's been expressed so far about the parent help to keep the boys fed, hydrated and bandaged. We ran into one dad helping one of the other No Cal teams and he was the only parent with the team. We had great fan support and the boys were really taken care of well.

Good luck to all the boys next year with their high school teams (unless you play SI). Have a great rest of the summer.

Testimonials

Parent
"I wanted to pass along that both Eric and Wade, tired as they have been after every day of camp this week, have nothing but good things to say about your camp. That is a huge compliment coming from these two players with 5 and 6 years of club + high school lacrosse. They say the coaching is outstanding, and even though they are sore, they are up and ready for the next day. "
  - C. Van Norden, San Jose, CA

Coach
"Chris and Eric get it. This is a thinking mans game to be played with passion and controlled aggression. Their model is what camps should be...up tempo and stressing the fundamentals without sacrificing fun."
  - Joe Thompson, U of Virginia Asst Coach

Player
"Experiencing Chris and Eric's camps, it is clear that they know the game of lacrosse and can successfully teach it to others. What impressed me the most and separated their camp from others was their caring attitudes for the kids and genuine interest in developing their campers skills"
  - Brian McDermott, U of Virginia Midfielder
